Okay, I admit it. I've been two timing this board (4 timing it at last count [img]wink.gif[/img] ). I belong to a robot collectors board called Alphadrome. Mostly made up of high end vintage robot collectors who wouldn't sneeze at spending $300 on a score. Some spend thousands and up to tens of thousands on grails. I, on the other hand, mostly look on in envy and collect repros. Truthfully, they're a great bunch and accept all levels of collectors. I also use them as a resource for my inspirations on robot sculptures.
Okay...to the point....Robert Johnson is a very high end collector dealer in vintage space toys. He is also the owner of Comet Toys which makes new custom versions of tin robots (not repros mind you). Apparently a couple of years ago he promised he would send every member of Alphadrome's "Robot Talk" board a free robot in gratitude for having a place to discuss the hobby. Quite a few members did not believe him. Well he pulled through on his promise yesterday with me! Introducing, ""Alphadrome Man"!
Not let me put a few things in perspective for you regarding the scope of this endeavor. There are over 300 members on the Alphadrome forums. I don't know the actual production costs but these robots (technically an "astronaut" because of the human face) retail from $150 to $200. And that's custom made box art for the project (Planet Hayes is a tribute to Brian Hayes, Alphadrome's founder and board administrator). Postage was almost $9.

Yes, the box art is very cool! They said that they were shipping 2 different designs to different members. So far, those that have recieved them got the red and chrome version. I don't know if the box art reflects the second version or not.
